Los Angeles County Bicycle Coalition Bikehangar

Faced with a lack of secure bike parking options in the Los Angeles Metro area, in fall 2023, BikeLA reached out to Cyclehoop US to find out how we could help them address this issue and provide secure bike parking at a fraction of the cost they were used to seeing.

The problem

BikeLA is a nonprofit organization that works to make all communities in LA County healthy, safe, and fun places to ride a bike through advocacy, education, and outreach. Their office shared space with other local businesses including Loaded Boards, a skateboard and scooter shop. They thought the only viable option was traditional bike racks or bike lockers. Due to past theft issues in this area and the high cost of bike lockers, they were looking for a different type of secure option. There were also issues with door access inside the building creating issues while maneuvering doorways and office areas.

The solution

The Bikehangar seemed to check off all of their secure parking needs that could be shared with bike and board commuters that use this multiunit business location. The facility has a back parking lot/garage door that was large enough for a Bikehangar to be positioned close to the employee entrance. This allowed the most convenient option for staff to park their micromobility vehicles safely.

Easier to manage

Bikes, boards and scooters now have an organized, secure place outside of work areas. This creates safer workplaces zones.

Encouraging more people to ride to work

With a higher security option and easier access, staff are empowered to cycle or board to work without fear of theft.

The Bikehangar is working great and being used on a consistent basis. Right now, there are 3 bikes parked safely inside!
